Our Booming Story as a Home-Grown Belgian Company

“Imagine fully digitizing industrial assets like containers, pallets, and transport boxes to optimize their use, monitor them in real-time, and even rent them out. The potential is massive, as many of these assets sit idle.” This was the vision ten years ago, and today, companies like Airbus, Atlas Copco, Volkswagen, Liebherr, Stellantis, and DHL are part of our journey. We now manage 300,000 connected assets,” says Kristoff Van Rattinghe, CEO and Co-Founder of Sensolus.

Sensolus started with a simple idea: countless industrial assets remain unused, sitting idle or getting lost. What if we made them digital, so they’re always traceable, better utilized, and even rentable? This would significantly boost efficiency and sustainability. Our mission is to digitize these assets, enabling businesses to “do more with less” while promoting sustainability.

Helping companies ‘do more with less’

Our breakthrough came with a Flemish subsidy that fueled our R&D, leading to our first product and patent. In 2016, Airbus became our first major customer, choosing us from 30 contenders to track critical components worldwide using our Internet of Things (IoT) solution. Despite being a small Flemish start-up with a team of six, our focus on sustainability through innovation made us stand out.

As a Flemish company, international expansion was a necessity. In the tech and hardware sector, finding a unique market position is key. A critical factor in our success was developing our hardware—a sensor that tracks assets. Developing hardware is costly and time-consuming, and early on, there was little interest in this space among Flemish investors. However, with support from local serial entrepreneurs and the Flemish venture capital fund Capricorn Partners, we scaled our hardware production to Taiwan.

Our growth accelerated when international aerospace companies began integrating our technology. After six years of development, travel, and hard work, our team of 30 expanded into four countries. We launched our product globally, registering 100,000 assets on our platform.

Overcoming global disruptions

Then, COVID-19 hit. Most of our airline customers paused operations, and like many others, we had to adapt to remote work during a critical growth phase. Despite this, we secured investment from a German fund, which allowed us to boost our R&D and expand into the U.S. market.

Supply chain disruptions, such as the Suez Canal crisis, further challenged us. However, we formed a strategic partnership with the German-Japanese industrial group Alps Alpine, which now handles our sensor production and logistics, allowing us to focus on creating value through our software.

Proudly international and growing fast!

In 2024, manage 300,000 assets for over 200 industrial clients, with operations in Europe and the U.S. and support from more than 50 resellers.

Our diverse team of 50 people, representing 14 nationalities, generates 90% of our revenue from exports. Our goal is to manage 1 million assets in the coming years, step by step, contributing to a more sustainable future.
