That depends on how many zones you want to tell apart. Think in zones, not square meters: one gateway per room, hall or storage zone is a good starting point. Zones work best when there’s a wall between them, or a good stretch of open space (around 100 meters). Bigger zones, or zones close together, may need an extra gateway to keep things clear.

You choose. Smart gateways can run on their own battery, so no cables or power outlet needed, or you can plug them into a standard power socket. Plugged in, a gateway can check for assets more often and handle more tags, and its built-in battery keeps it running if the power drops.
