Sensolus, a leading European provider of non-powered asset tracking and partner Alps Alpine, global manufacturer and IoT innovator, introduce a game-changing tracking solution to the waste management industry at the Resource and Waste Management Expo (RWM) in the UK on 11 – 12 September 2024.
“Together, we are making IoT tracking mass-market ready on an international stage, thus enriching the global market”, states Kristoff van Rattinghe, CEO of Sensolus.
Proven to be a revenueboosting solution, GPS tracking is a fast-growing technology within the waste management and recycling sectors. By attaching GPS trackers and sensors to waste containers, companies can achieve unprecedented visibility of their revenue-creating assets, with insights that go beyond location tracking, to utilisation, operational performance and estate optimisation.
Sensolus’ cloud-based platform and mobile app offer process intelligence that enables companies to monitor and improve container usage and rotation times, detect slow-moving or dormant containers, reduce over-retentions, and ultimately increase the overall productivity of their waste container fleets.

Furthermore, Alps Alpine will be demonstrating their latest device at RWM, “SKOLL”, also known as FL4300 which is a highly precise battery powered sensor, utilising mmWave Radar technology. It pairs with a tracker and effectively monitors waste container fill levels; this enables more efficient waste collection based on real data, reducing costs and increasing process efficiency.
“Digitisation and IoT have touched industry everywhere and that includes Waste & Recycling. There’s been a big ‘rush’ in this sector recently – an acceleration of demand for connecting and monitoring assets. This is hardly surprising as assets that are large and mobile lend themselves perfectly to being digitised and give operators instant benefits” explains Any Thomas, UK & Ireland lead for Sensolus.
Big players across Europe and North America, for example, Veolia and Suez, have integrated Sensolus technology with their own ERP systems, thus boosting their overall operational efficiency even further.
Wim Neckebroeck, Data Management Analyst at Veolia explains, “The API integration between Sensolus and our fleet management system helped us get high-quality data about waste container availability. We allocate freed up waste containers to a new project faster.”
Furthermore, sustainability benefits are inherent in the tracking solution, albeit indirect. Companies like Sensolus help customers do more with less, maximizing the use of existing inventory without needing to purchase more containers. Additionally, improved container rotations and reduced unnecessary transportation contribute to sustainability efforts.
“By partnering with Sensolus, customers benefit from a comprehensive and state-of-the-art software platform combined with our robust and reliable electronic hardware. This collaboration reIsults in a solution that delivers real economic efficiency and a commitment to sustainability,” explains Atsuhiro Takeda, Business Development Manager for Alps Alpine UK.
Dedicated to a greener future, the Alps Alpine IoT production facility in Millstreet, Ireland boasts 100% LED lighting, innovative ECO cooling systems, and operates entirely on renewable electricity. This commitment not only underscores Alps Alpine’s dedication to environmental stewardship but enhances its efficiency and product quality, making Alps Alpine a leader in sustainable manufacturing.
About the partnership
