Sensolus was founded in 2013 by four Belgians who wanted to take the complexity out of IoT, so companies could spend their time improving processes instead of wiring up technology.
Johan asked the question first: what if a sensor could be installed like a sticker and keep talking to the internet for years, without ever needing a charge? Kristoff heard it over a drink just before leaving on a sabbatical, then spent the summer driving through Europe in a camper with his family, unable to let the idea go.
They kept writing to each other on the road, and by the end of the trip they had a pact: “If you make sure it works technically, I will make sure there is business to be made.” Johan brought in Koen for the electronics and firmware, and Laurence to keep the technology tied to how people actually work. All four are still hands-on more than a decade later.

It all started with a farewell drink and Johan’s bold vision: “What if IoT was as easy as putting on a sticker?” Kristoff was surfing Europe in a camper when this dream wouldn’t leave his mind. Soon we were building backpacks for chickens (yes, really!) and discovering they have agoraphobia. This quirky project proved we could deliver high-precision tracking for any use case.

All our learnings clicked together. We partnered with Xwift and Ninatrans to track trailers and lifting equipment – the moment we found our true calling in non-powered asset tracking.
Airbus became our first customer, choosing us with one simple reason: “it just works.” As an enterprise client, they pushed us to build security by design from day one. Later, they broadened scope by implementing BLE for tool tracking, proving our platform’s versatility.
